Washington, D.C. \u2014 <\/strong>U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is slamming the Trump Administration\u2019s decision to gut a critical vaccine safety committee at Georgia\u2019s CDC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff joined a group of Senators<\/a> slamming U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. for firing the entire Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which they warn puts Georgia families at risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cACIP is a longstanding, trusted national source of science- and data-backed advice and guidance on the use of vaccines to prevent and control disease. Members that serve on this committee must undergo extensive vetting and disclose any conflicts of interest,\u201d Sen. Ossoff and the group wrote.<\/strong> \u201cFiring every member of the committee just before their next meeting scheduled for June 25-27 eliminates the advisory board\u2019s ability to debate and make well-informed recommendations, putting American lives at risk.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a report<\/a> by The New York Times<\/em>, many insurers, including Medicare, are required to fully pay for the vaccines recommended by ACIP. If the committee stops recommending vaccines, people may have to pay for the shot out of pocket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is critical that ACIP maintains its ability to develop science- and data-driven recommendations on vaccination without interference from anti-vaccine ideology,\u201d Sen. Ossoff and the group continued. <\/strong>\u201cPatient safety and transparency is at the heart of ACIP \u2014 Americans deserve the ability to make informed decisions about their health.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working to defend the health and safety of Georgia families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May, Sen. Ossoff and a group of Senators demanded answer<\/a>s from Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on the elimination<\/a> of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) team responsible for making sure families who are trying to have children through in vitro fertilization (IVF) can do so in an informed and safe manner \u2013 despite President Donald Trump\u2019s promise to support families seeking IVF treatments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April, Sen. Ossoff condemned<\/a> the Trump Administration\u2019s continued attacks on CDC following reports of mass layoffs of thousands of CDC employees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In early February, Sen. Ossoff quickly warned<\/a> against the Trump Administration\u2019s attacks on the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
