Ossoff Working Across the Aisle to Protect Kids\u2019 Privacy Online"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014&nbsp;U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to strengthen protections for children and teens online. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Sen. Ossoff is launching a push to pass the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Children and Teens\u2019 Online Privacy Protection Act&nbsp;(COPPA 2.0)<\/em>, legislation he co-sponsored to&nbsp;limit use of children&#8217;s information for individually targeted advertising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bipartisan bill would limit targeted advertising to children and teens while also empowering parents to have their children\u2019s data wiped from the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bipartisan bill was originally introduced by Senators Ed Markey (D-MA) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a 2023&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/ideas\/archive\/2023\/09\/kids-online-data-privacy-tracking-apps\/675320\/\">report<\/a>&nbsp;by&nbsp;<em>the Atlantic<\/em>, many apps used by 3- and 4-year-olds collect digital identifiers and many children\u2019s apps contain more third-party trackers than those geared toward adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis bill will restrict online spying and advertising targeting children and empower parents to take back control of their kids\u2019 sensitive and private data,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>said.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cThat\u2019s why I\u2019m bringing Senators from both parties together to pass this bill.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to protect children\u2019s privacy online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last August, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/news-bipartisan-bill-backed-by-sen-ossoff-to-keep-kids-safe-online-passes-u-s-senate\/\">Senate passed<\/a>&nbsp;the&nbsp;<em>Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act<\/em>, a bipartisan bill co-sponsored by Sen. Ossoff that would&nbsp;require online platforms to activate the most protective settings for kids by default, providing minors with options to protect their information, disable addictive product features, and opt-out of personalized algorithmic recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, President Biden&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/breaking-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-online-exploitation-signed-into-law\/\">signed into law<\/a>&nbsp;Sens.
