Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 Today, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is welcoming Alfred J. \u201cAl\u201d Lipphardt, Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., as his guest to President Trump\u2019s Joint Address of Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working alongside Georgia\u2019s veterans to protect and strengthen the benefits and services they\u2019ve earned and push back against the Trump Administration\u2019s recent firings<\/a> of VA clinical staff and suicide prevention specialists. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s my honor to host Mr. Al Lipphardt, Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), as my guest for the President\u2019s Joint Address of Congress. We have no higher obligation than ensuring our veterans and military families have the benefits and services they\u2019ve earned, and I will continue working alongside Al and all of Georgia\u2019s veterans to strengthen veterans\u2019 access to benefits and care,\u201d Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alfred J. \u201cAl\u201d Lipphardt was elected Commander-in-Chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. on Aug. 1, 2024, at the 125th VFW National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Al served in the United States Army from 1965 to 1979, earning his VFW eligibility by serving in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968, and from 1970 to 1971. In recognition of his heroic service in combat, he received the Combat Infantryman\u2019s Badge, Bronze Star with \u201cV\u201d device, Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service, Purple Heart Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Silver Star and two Bronze Stars, among many others. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He joined the VFW in 2002 at Post 12002 in North Fulton, Georgia, and maintains his Gold Legacy Life membership in VFW Post 2667, Newnan, Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
