Columbus, Ga. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff\u2019s bill to help upgrade Columbus water infrastructure has been signed into law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff\u2019s Georgia Stormwater Management Act <\/em>was signed into law<\/a> earlier this month as part of the Water Resources Development Act<\/em> reauthorization to upgrade water infrastructure for families and businesses across the Columbus area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff\u2019s law creates a new authority for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct water infrastructure projects across the Columbus area, which would upgrade quality of life and improve resiliency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the new authorization, Congress can now appropriate funding for the Army Corps to partner with the Columbus Consolidated Government on water infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI remain focused on the Chattahoochee Valley every day. I\u2019ve heard from local leaders about concerns with aging water infrastructure, and now we\u2019ve passed into law this bill that will allow the U.S. Army Corps to work on vital water infrastructure projects across Columbus,\u201d Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are grateful for Senator Ossoff\u2019s unwavering support for Columbus. Water is one of our most precious resources and this provision will enhance our ability to protect that resource and deliver it to our citizens,\u201d Columbus Mayor B.H. \u201cSkip\u201d Henderson III said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI believe this bill is a win for Columbus. It supports Columbus Water Works\u2019 vision of leading the Chattahoochee Valley to health and prosperity by operating a first-class water utility,\u201d Jeremy Cummings, President of Columbus Water Works said.<\/strong> \u201cHaving the access to these additional resources will help us face the challenges of our aging Water and Sewer infrastructure and is a first step in funding assistance for future projects.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working to strengthen Georgia\u2019s infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock announced they delivered<\/a> $1 million through the bipartisan infrastructure law to help expedite the cleanup of hazardous materials in Columbus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, Sen. Ossoff passed into law<\/a> his Chattahoochee River Act<\/em>, a first-of-its-kind law that authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to work on water projects up and down the Chattahoochee River throughout the state of Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
