Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock\u2019s\u00a0<em>City of Atlanta Water Infrastructure Enhancement Act\u00a0<\/em>was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/legislation\/2025\/01\/04\/press-release-bills-signed-h-r-670-h-r-1318-h-r-2997-h-r-3391-h-r-5103-h-r-5443-h-r-5887-h-r-6062-h-r-6395-h-r-6492-h-r-6852-h-r-7158-h-r-7180-h-r-7365-h-r-7385-h-r-74\/\"> signed into law<\/a>\u00a0earlier this month as part of the\u00a0<em>Water Resources Development Act\u00a0<\/em>reauthorization\u00a0to upgrade water infrastructure for families and businesses across Atlanta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congresswoman Nikema&nbsp;Williams introduced the companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The law expands an existing authorization for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to carry out water infrastructure projects in the city, including drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure projects, which would improve quality of life and strengthen resilience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the expanded authorization, Congress can now appropriate more funding for water infrastructure projects across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cClean, safe, healthy drinking water is not a luxury \u2014 it\u2019s a necessity. For families, for seniors, and for businesses in the community, any interruption of safe drinking water is an emergency,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cThat\u2019s why after disruptions in Atlanta, we passed this legislation&nbsp;into law&nbsp;to help upgrade Atlanta\u2019s water infrastructure.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGeorgians across the state rely on safe, clean, and reliable water for drinking, maintaining homes and businesses, and more. But this is the type of work that goes largely unrecognized until disaster strikes, highlighting why it is so important to secure investments today that will protect Georgia\u2019s water infrastructure tomorrow,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Senator Reverend Warnock.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cThis bipartisan legislation will help do just that, and I will continue championing federal investments that bolster Georgia\u2019s economy and ecology.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis legislation is a perfect example of the importance of investing in cities\u2019 critical infrastructure. A clean, safe and reliable water system is a cornerstone of healthy communities, and I thank Senator Ossoff, Senator Warnock and Congresswoman Williams for always championing this city,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to strengthen Georgia\u2019s water infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In June, Sens. Ossoff and Warnock and Congresswoman Williams&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.warnock.senate.gov\/newsroom\/press-releases\/senator-reverend-warnock-colleagues-announce-over-990000-in-federal-funding-to-review-atlantas-aging-water-infrastructure\/\">delivered $993,500<\/a>&nbsp;through the bipartisan infrastructure law for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to review Atlanta\u2019s aging water infrastructure following the recent series of water main breaks that left hundreds of thousands of families and businesses without water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-helping-upgrade-college-park-water-infrastructure\/\">delivered<\/a>&nbsp;Federal funding to help the City of College Park install a new water storage tank and booster system, which will ensure residents have access to reliable, clean drinking water, and accommodate economic growth in the city, and he&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-helping-upgrade-rockdale-county-water-infrastructure\/\">delivered<\/a>&nbsp;new resources to help replace Rockdale County\u2019s 50-year-old water pump station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, Sen. Ossoff and Congresswoman Lucy McBath (GA-06)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoffs-legislation-to-preserve-protect-chattahoochee-river-signed-into-law\/\">passed into law<\/a>&nbsp;their&nbsp;<em>Chattahoochee River Act<\/em>, a first-of-its-kind law that authorizes the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to work on water projects up and down the Chattahoochee River throughout the state of Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"># # #<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Atlanta, Ga.&nbsp;\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff&#8217;s legislation to help upgrade Atlanta\u2019s water infrastructure is now law.
