Companion legislation passed the House of Representatives last night<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock are introducing legislation to rename the Plains, Georgia, Post Office in honor of former President Jimmy Carter and the late First Lady Rosalynn Carter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock introduced legislation to honor the Carters by renaming the Post Office located at 119 Main Street in Plains, Georgia, as the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Post Office.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The companion bill in the U.S. House of Representatives was first introduced by the entire Georgia Congressional delegation, led by Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), who represents Plains. Rep. Bishop\u2019s legislation passed the House last night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRenaming the post office in Plains, Georgia, in honor of President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter is a tribute to their lifelong service,\u201d Sen. Ossoff said. <\/strong>\u201cThe Carters have left an indelible mark on our nation and the world. A Post Office named in their honor of Plains is a small but fitting tribute to their legacy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cJimmy and Rosalynn Carter led exemplary lives while serving Georgians and our nation and were fiercely committed to uplifting the lives of all Americans,\u201d said Senator Reverend Warnock.<\/strong>\u201cRenaming the Plains post office after both of these Georgia icons is a small nod to their triumphant legacy in the Peach State.\u201d  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPresident Jimmy Carter and the late First Lady Rosalynn Carter dedicated their lives in service to their community, their country, and the world. From the Plains Peanut Festival to the Governor\u2019s Mansion, to the White House \u2013 and to communities around the globe \u2013 they remained grounded and humble, and Plains always remained home in their hearts,\u201d said Congressman Bishop.<\/strong> \u201cThat is why I am proud to be the lead sponsor of H.R. 9600. Designating the Plains postal facility as the \u2018Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Post Office\u2019 would be a small, but meaningful gesture to honor and thank two dedicated servant leaders who spent their lives working to improve the lives of others.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPlains holds a special place in the heart of President Carter as the place he and First Lady Rosalynn Carter called home for most of their lives, so it is especially fitting to name the Post Office in their honor,\u201d said Paige Alexander, CEO of The Carter Center, the nonprofit organization that carries on their global work to wage peace, fight disease, and build hope.<\/strong> \u201cWe appreciate the Senators and House members from Georgia who introduced this legislation as a tribute to the Carters\u2019 legacy in their hometown.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
