Ossoff Working Across the Aisle to Strengthen Early Diabetes Detection Across Georgia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Atlanta, Ga.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 This Diabetes Awareness month, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across the aisle to strengthen early diabetes detection across Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff is working to pass the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>SCREEN for Type 1 Diabetes Act<\/em>&nbsp;to establish a Type 1 Diabetes public awareness campaign and urge people to get screened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/diabetes\/about\/about-type-1-diabetes.html#:~:text=You%20can%20get%20type%201,sister%20with%20type%201%20diabetes.\">Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)<\/a>, type 1 diabetes can occur in all ages but is the most common type of diabetes in children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bipartisan bill, first introduced by Senators Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) and Susan Collins (R-ME), would direct the CDC to carry out a national campaign to increase awareness and knowledge of type 1 diabetes detection, screening, and management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToo many Georgians suffering from Type 1 Diabetes face life-threatening complications simply because the disease is caught too late,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cThis is why I\u2019m working across the aisle to strengthen early detection and ensure better health outcomes for families across our state.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/dph.georgia.gov\/chronic-disease-prevention\/diabetes\">the Georgia Department of Public Health<\/a>, between 2014 and 2018, diabetes was the cause of 104,098 hospitalizations and 154,761 ER visits in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to increase Georgians\u2019 access to lifesaving health care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a May U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/watch-sen-ossoff-calls-out-abusive-practices-of-pharmaceutical-companies-keeping-georgians-medication-prices-high\/\">called out<\/a>&nbsp;the abusive practices of pharmaceutical companies who are using unfair practices to reduce generic medicine competition and hike prices, forcing Georgia families to pay exorbitant prices for life-saving medicine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/senate-judiciary-committee-passes-ossoff-backed-bipartisan-bills-to-lower-prescription-drug-prices-for-georgia-families\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">helped pushed a package<\/a>&nbsp;of bipartisan bills through the Senate Judiciary Committee to bring down prescription drug costs and improve transparency in the pharmaceutical industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, Sen.
