Atlanta, Ga. \u2014<\/strong> U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is strengthening mental health and substance abuse treatment services for Georgia families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Sen. Ossoff announced he is delivering $7.2 million in Federal resources to Community Health Centers across Georgia through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to strengthen access to mental health and substance abuse treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The funding will be used to establish and expand local programs that help individuals struggling with their mental health or substance use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI hear consistently from local leaders, health leaders, and faith leaders across the state about the need for a stronger safety net for mental health as well as investment in substance abuse prevention and treatment,\u201d Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019m pleased to announce that with bipartisan support from Republicans and Democrats, I\u2019ve helped secure supplemental investments coming to Georgia to support mental health and substance abuse treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mental Health America\u2019s The State of Mental Health in America 2024<\/em> report<\/a> found the vast majority of people with a substance use disorder in the U.S. are not receiving treatment, and that over half of youth surveyed who experienced mental health struggles did not receive treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working to strengthen resources for Georgia families to get the care they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In July, Sen. Ossoff delivered<\/a> over $2.8 million in Federal grant funding through the Drug-Free Communities Support Programs (DFC) for communities across Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June, Sen. Ossoff backed<\/a> a bipartisan bill to expand mental health programs for law enforcement officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May, Sen. Ossoff joined<\/a> a group of bipartisan Senators introducing the bipartisan STRONGER Act<\/em>to strengthen Georgia\u2019s response to the opioid epidemic and save lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022, Sen. Ossoff\u2019s Rural Opioid Abuse Prevention Act<\/em><\/a> <\/em>was signed into law to help rural communities experiencing a high level of opioid overdoses respond to the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
