Ossoff to Keep Kids Safe Online Passes U.S. Senate"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 Bipartisan legislation backed by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff to keep Georgia kids safe online and protect their privacy has passed the U.S. Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Senate recently passed the&nbsp;<em>Kids Online Safety and Privacy Act<\/em>, a bipartisan bill co-sponsored by Sen. Ossoff that would ban online companies from collecting personal information from users between 13 and 16 years old without their consent, ban companies from using children\u2019s personal information for targeted advertising, and enable parents and kids to delete personal information from company platforms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill would also require online platforms to activate the most protective settings for kids by default, providing minors with options to protect their information, disable addictive product features, and opt-out of personalized algorithmic recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bipartisan bill now goes to the U.S. House.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s essential that we protect children from online predators and protect their privacy from advertisers and social media companies,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cWe brought Senators from both parties together to pass our bipartisan bill that will keep kids safe and protect their privacy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues leading efforts in the Senate to protect children online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In May, Sen. Ossoff\u2019s&nbsp;bipartisan&nbsp;<em>REPORT Act&nbsp;<\/em>with Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/breaking-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-online-exploitation-signed-into-law\/\">became law<\/a>, which will \u2014 for the first time \u2014 require websites and social media platforms to report crimes involving Federal trafficking and enticement of children to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January, Sens. Ossoff and Chuck Grassley (R-IA)\u2019s bipartisan<em>&nbsp;Preventing Child Sex Abuse Act of 2023&nbsp;<\/em>was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/news-sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-protect-children-from-online-predators-sexual-exploitation-signed-into-law\/\">signed into law<\/a>&nbsp;to strengthen Federal protections against the sexual abuse of children, including online exploitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a December 2023&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/watch-sen-ossoff-requests-update-from-fbi-director-following-reported-spike-in-sextortion-cases-across-georgia\/\">U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee hearing<\/a>, Sen.
