Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to expand insurance policy options for specialty crop growers in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Sen. Ossoff is joining as the Senate co-lead of the bipartisan Temperature Endorsement for Multi-Peril Policies (TEMP) Act<\/em>, a bill introduced by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) that would direct the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation (FCIC) to study the development of insurance policies for losses from frost and cold-weather events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bipartisan bill would direct the FCIC to study the development of policies that would insure<\/a> specialty crops on a nationally available basis against losses due to a frost or cold weather event. While Federal crop insurance coverage options for specialty crops have expanded in recent years, it remains challenging to offer policies based on smaller acreages, multiple crop varieties, different farming practices, and more, according to experts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am working every day to support Georgia\u2019s agricultural community. That\u2019s why I\u2019m backing this bipartisan bill to support Georgia\u2019s specialty crop growers,\u201d Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Congressmen Scott Franklin (R-FL-18), Darren Soto (D-FL-09), Cory Mills (R-FL-07), and Greg Steube (R-FL-17) introduced the House companion bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working to support Georgia\u2019s farmers and growers and strengthen the state\u2019s leading agricultural industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, following Sen. Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan, bicameral push<\/a> to ensure Georgia farmers are at the table to address unfair trade practices by Mexican importers, the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) established<\/a> a Seasonal and Perishable Agricultural Products Advisory Committee that includes Georgia members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April, Sen. Ossoff co-sponsored<\/a> the bipartisan Specialty CROP Act of 2023<\/em> to support Georgia\u2019s farmers and level the playing field to boost exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Sens. Ossoff and Rubio (R-FL) introduced<\/a> the Land Grant Research Prioritization Act<\/em> to improve research and development for advanced agricultural technologies, including mechanization technology and agricultural uses of artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also last year, Sens. Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock urged<\/a> the Biden Administration to support Georgia\u2019s agricultural industry after recent natural disasters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
