Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 Today, bipartisan legislation championed by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff to strengthen fire safety across Georgia passed the U.S. Senate and heads to the President\u2019s desk to become law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff brought Republicans and Democrats together to pass the Fire Grants and Safety Act, <\/em>which will re-authorize key grant programs that provide Federal funding to Georgia\u2019s fire departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bipartisan bill extends authorizations for the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program, the Fire Prevention and Safety Grants Program, and the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Grant (SAFER) Program, which can be used to upgrade equipment, hire and retain firefighters, strengthen trainings to better protect families, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere\u2019s no worse nightmare for any family than waking up in the middle of the night, smelling smoke, calling 911, but there\u2019s no fire rescue service available in time. After hearing from Fire chiefs across the state about aging equipment and understaffed departments, I worked to bring Republicans and Democrats together to pass this bipartisan bill that will upgrade fire safety across Georgia,\u201d said Sen. Ossoff.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since taking office, Sen. Ossoff has delivered dozens of grants through these Federal grant programs to cities, counties, and agencies across the state\u2014 including C<\/a>olumbus and West Point;<\/a> Augusta and Twin City<\/a>; Metro Atlanta and North Georgia,<\/a> Middle Georgia<\/a>, Southwest Georgia<\/a>, and Coastal Georgia<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
