Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is introducing a bipartisan bill to strengthen relocation support for Georgia servicemembers and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Sens. Ossoff and Marco Rubio (R-FL) introduced the bipartisan Relocation Assistance for Military Families Act of 2024, <\/em>which would require theU.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to evaluate current relocation assistance programs, listen to feedback from family support advocacy organizations, and to report improvements and publish a best practices guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bipartisan legislation would also require an eventual U.S. Governmental Accountability Office (GAO) review of the best practices guide to ensure it maximally benefits military families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cServicemembers and their families make tremendous sacrifices to keep our country safe, and many face<\/a> frequent moves across the country and around the world during their time in service,\u201d Sen. Ossoff<\/strong> said.<\/strong> \u201cThat\u2019s why Senator Rubio and I are introducing this bipartisan bill to strengthen relocation assistance programs and ensure they maximally benefit our heroic servicemembers and their families.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur servicemembers sacrifice so much for our country, including stability. More than 400,000 service members have to move every year due to a change of station. My bill would ensure the DoD has well-known, helpful programs to help military families in their transitions,\u201d Senator Rubio said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working to improve the lives of Georgia\u2019s military families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In March, Sens. Ossoff and Eric Schmitt (R-MO) introduced<\/a> the bipartisan Military Spouse Job Continuity Act<\/em> to permanently authorize reimbursements for military spouses who are forced to pay fees for the transfer of a professional license or certification due to a Permanent Change of Station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Sens. Ossoff and Schmitt passed into law<\/a> their bipartisan Military Spouse Career Support Act of 2023 <\/em>through the NDAA to support military spouses\u2019 careers by expanding the reimbursement of licensure and business costs to spouses of servicemembers who are transferring to the reserve component.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2022 Sen. Ossoff passed into law his bipartisan Military Spouse Licensing Relief Act<\/em> to make job opportunities more flexible for military spouses<\/a> by requiring states to recognize the professional licenses of military spouses from other states when their family\u2019s station changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
