Ossoff Working to Cut Taxes for Georgia Teachers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to cut taxes for teachers in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Sen. Ossoff is pushing to pass the&nbsp;<em>Educators Expense Deduction Modernization Act of 2023,&nbsp;<\/em>bipartisan legislation he co-sponsored to expand the maximum deduction amount teachers can claim on their tax return to recoup out-of-pocket costs spent on classroom supplies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The current out-of-pocket classroom expense tax deductions are capped at $250; the new legislation that Sen. Ossoff is pushing to pass would expand that deduction to $1,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A USA Today&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/education\/2023\/08\/26\/teachers-spending-out-pocket-classrooms-asking-amazon-donations\/70569670007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">study<\/a>&nbsp;last year found over 90% of teachers have spent money out of pocket for classroom supplies, with over 50% of them reporting they spent over $1,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith this bill, I am championing tax cuts for Georgia teachers. Georgia\u2019s teachers are heroes in our communities. Our bipartisan legislation would cut taxes for our public school teachers, many of whom are spending their own hard-earned money to purchase supplies needed to teach and enrich our children,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to expand preschool and educational opportunities for Georgia families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-delivering-new-resources-to-expand-pre-school-opportunities-for-georgia-families\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">delivered<\/a>&nbsp;a $1 billion increase in funding to boost access to quality childcare and Head Start programs in Georgia and nationwide, roughly a 30 percent increase in funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Sen.
