Ossoff Pushing to Expand Cancer Screenings for Georgia Seniors\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.\u202f<\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across the aisle to strengthen cancer screenings for Georgia seniors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Sen. Ossoff launched a push to pass the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Medicare Multi-Cancer Early Detection Screening Coverage Act<\/em>, legislation he co-sponsored to expand early detection cancer screenings for Georgia seniors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bipartisan legislation would allow Medicare to cover FDA-approved multi-cancer early detection (MCED) screening tests and allow more seniors across Georgia to catch the disease in its early stages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEarly cancer detection saves lives. That\u2019s why I\u2019m helping lead Senators in both parties to increase access to advanced cancer screenings for seniors in Georgia and nationwide,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cancerstatisticscenter.cancer.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>&nbsp;by the American Cancer Society, in Georgia, there will be approximately 63,170 cancer cases diagnosed this year, with an estimated total of 18,740 cancer deaths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to increase Georgians\u2019 access to lifesaving health coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February, Sen. Ossoff joined a bipartisan inquiry with the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)&nbsp;urging&nbsp;the Biden Administration to maintain current cervical cancer screening recommendations and increase awareness of the need to get screened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In December, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-launches-bipartisan-inquiry-into-shortage-of-chemotherapy-drugs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">led<\/a>&nbsp;a bipartisan, bicameral group of Georgia\u2019s Congressional Delegation requesting an update from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the shortage of drugs needed to treat cancer patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In November, the U.S. Senate&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/u-s-senate-passes-sens-ossoffs-bipartisan-amendment-to-expand-veterans-access-to-breast-cancer-screenings\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">passed<\/a>&nbsp;Sen. Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan amendment to expand access to breast cancer screenings for Georgia veterans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September, Emory University in Atlanta was the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/news.emory.edu\/stories\/2023\/08\/hs_arpa-h-funding-announcement_23-08-2023\/story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">first recipient<\/a>&nbsp;of funding through the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), a new research agency funded through the bipartisan FY22 appropriations bill that Sen.
