Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to help Georgia\u2019s servicemembers access VA benefits as they transition to civilian life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff is pushing to pass the bipartisan TAP Promotion Act, <\/em>legislation he co-sponsored to help servicemembers more easily access VA benefits as they transition to civilian life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Before they discharge, servicemembers attend a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) to help prepare them for civilian life, including how to find jobs, pursue further education, file disability claims, and more. However, not all servicemembers have access to accredited VA representatives during these sessions who can directly help them file claims with the VA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bipartisan TAP Promotion Act <\/em>would authorize accredited VA representatives to attend TAP sessions at installations nationwide, helping servicemembers more easily and more directly file VA claims as they discharge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur servicemembers make tremendous sacrifices to keep our families safe, but it\u2019s too hard for them to access their benefits after they leave the military,\u201d Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019m bringing Republicans and Democrats together help servicemembers access the benefits they\u2019ve earned.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working across the aisle to ensure Georgia\u2019s servicemembers and veterans can access the benefits they\u2019ve earned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, Sens. Ossoff and Rick Scott (R-FL) launched<\/a> a bipartisan inquiry into delays veterans are facing between referral dates and scheduled medical appointment at VA community care locations in Georgia and nationwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November, Sen. Ossoff launched a push to pass the bipartisan Love Lives on Act of 2023<\/em><\/a>, <\/em>legislation he co-sponsored to protect Gold Star spouses from losing benefits. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In October, Sens. Ossoff and Mike Braun (R-IN) led<\/a> a bipartisan coalition of 20 Senators in a follow-up inquiry to the National Archives of the United States (NARA) into the backlog of veterans\u2019 record requests, requesting updated information on the status of reducing the backlog of record requests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
