Ossoff Introduces Legislation to Get Corporate Money Out of Politics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2014 U.S.&nbsp;Senator&nbsp;Jon&nbsp;Ossoff&nbsp;is introducing a bill to get corporate money out of politics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Sens. Ossoff and Mark Kelly (D-AZ)&nbsp;introduced&nbsp;the&nbsp;<em>Ban Corporate PACs&nbsp;Act<\/em>, which would&nbsp;ban for-profit corporations from influencing political campaigns and federal elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff refused&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.valdostadailytimes.com\/news\/ga_fl_news\/ossoff-swears-off-corporate-pac-money-in-campaign-ad\/article_84cc4aca-c20e-11ea-b79c-aff0a2bfdd1b.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contributions from corporate PACs<\/a>&nbsp;during his U.S. Senate campaign and vowed to introduce legislation abolishing them altogether \u2014 and he is following through on that pledge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t take contributions from corporate PACs. Corporate money corrupts the legislative process, and I\u2019m leading this effort alongside Senator Kelly to ban corporate PACs altogether \u2014 as I said I would when I ran for the Senate,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Sen. Ossoff.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn issues from tackling climate change to reducing costs for working families, we\u2019ve seen that big corporations have too much sway on what happens in Washington. Senator Ossoff and I understand that representatives need to be accountable to their constituents, not big corporations. Our bill will end the influence corporate PACs have on our political system and make Washington work better for Arizonans,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Sen. Kelly<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor too long, big corporations have had unfettered access and influence in the halls of Congress because they spend millions of dollars every election cycle to influence candidates,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said End Citizens United \/\/ Let America Vote Action Fund President Tiffany Muller.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cThe&nbsp;<em>Ban Corporate PACs Act<\/em>&nbsp;is a critical step in ensuring our government works for the people\u2014not just greedy corporate special interests. We applaud Senator Kelly and Senator Ossoff for reintroducing this important piece of legislation and their continued work to make Washington reflective of the people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>The&nbsp;<em>Ban Corporate PACs Act<\/em>&nbsp;would:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eliminate the ability of for-profit corporations to establish and manage a PAC.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Eliminate the ability of for-profit corporations or PACs to solicit contributions from corporate stockholders.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Require that existing corporate PACs that will no longer be allowed under this Act be terminated and funds be fully disbursed within 1 year after enactment of the Act.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues working to reduce corporate influence in Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In September, Sens.
