Ossoff\u2019s Bipartisan Bill to Give Military Spouses More Job Flexibility During Relocations Signed into Law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C. \u2014&nbsp;<\/strong>U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan bill to support military spouses\u2019 careers is now law<em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, Sens. Ossoff and Eric Schmitt (R-MO) introduced the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Military Spouse Career Support Act of 2023&nbsp;<\/em>to support military spouses\u2019 careers by expanding the reimbursement of licensure and business costs to spouses of servicemembers who are transferring to the reserve component.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many military families incur high costs during frequent moves, including military spouses who must reapply for business licenses, certifications, and more when moving to a new assignment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, the Department of Defense (DoD) only offers reimbursements for military spouses\u2019 relicensing, recertification, and business costs when active-duty military families relocate between assignments; not when families relocate between active and reserve assignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMilitary families make tremendous sacrifices in defense of our nation,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cI brought Republicans and Democrats together to pass this bill into law and help military spouses have more job flexibility.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.militarytimes.com\/news\/your-military\/2023\/01\/06\/its-official-military-spouses-to-get-employment-relief-after-moving\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to the DoD<\/a>, nearly 39% of military spouses require a professional license for their jobs and can face unemployment each time they move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Sen. Ossoff worked across the aisle to pass the bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Military Spouse Licensing Relief Act<\/em>&nbsp;into law to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.walb.com\/2023\/02\/01\/sen-ossoff-helps-expand-job-opportunities-military-spouses-pushes-moody-air-force-base-upgrades\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">make job opportunities more flexible for military spouses<\/a>&nbsp;by requiring states to recognize the professional licenses of military spouses from other states when their family\u2019s station changes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"># # #&nbsp;<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Washington, D.C. \u2014&nbsp;U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan bill to support military spouses\u2019 careers is now law.
