Washington D.C. \u2014 <\/strong>U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, a member of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee, continues working to strengthen U.S. national security and confirm vital military promotions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Sen. Ossoff voted in the U.S. Senate Rules Committee to advance a Senate Resolution<\/a> that would allow the Senate to approve pending military nominations as a group, helping end the current hold on military nominations by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL). The Resolution now heads to a vote in the full Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pentagon officials have warned<\/a> that Tuberville\u2019s current hold on military promotions is damaging U.S. national security and hurting military readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe step that we’ve taken today to empower the Senate, finally, to confirm the promotions of hundreds of deserving career military officers \u2014 apolitical public servants \u2014 who are sworn to defend the United States and all of its people \u2014 regardless of politics\u2014 is critically important to my constituents in Georgia, to U.S. national security, and to our reputation in the world,\u201d said Sen. Ossoff. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For months, Sen. Tuberville has objected to the Senate\u2019s attempts to approve military nominations, holding up the promotions of over 350 servicemembers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every year, the President submits to the Senate, for its advice and consent, thousands of nominations for non-civilian military appointments and promotions.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SEN. OSSOFF: <\/strong>\u201cThank you, Madam Chair. Thank you for your leadership. And I want to begin by thanking all of the military spouses, military families, active-duty service members, veterans, who are with us today. <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is a national security crisis, to have hundreds of general officers whose promotions cannot be confirmed with impacts on our military readiness that cascade down through the chain of command and impact officers at all levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis impacts the readiness of some of the most important units deployed around the world, strategic facilities at a moment of great peril and global instability. And so, the step that we’ve taken today to empower the Senate, finally, to confirm the promotions of hundreds of deserving career military officers \u2014 apolitical public servants \u2014 who are sworn to defend the United States and all of its people \u2014 regardless of politics\u2014 is critically important to my constituents in Georgia, to U.S. national security, and to our reputation in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
