Washington, D.C.<\/strong> \u2014 Today, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, a member of the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee, led a group of Senators pressing the Biden Administration on West Bank settler violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs Israel confronts the atrocities of the October 7th Hamas attacks, and threats in Gaza and southern Lebanon, it is crucial that U.S. and Israeli policy reinforce the stability and security of the West Bank,\u201d the Senators wrote to President Biden<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong>\u201cIf additional action to prevent these violent settler activities is not taken, we worry that civilians and U.S. national security interests will suffer grave harm.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff is joined by Senators Mark Warner (D-VA), Chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence; Jack Reed (D-RI), Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee; John Hickenlooper (D-CO); Martin Heinrich (D-NM); Tim Kaine (D-VA); and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Times of Israel<\/em> has reported<\/a> that Shin Bet, the Israeli internal security service, is concerned that settler violence could enflame the West Bank. On October 29, the United Nations also warned<\/a> of escalations in the West Bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are encouraged by recent statements from the White House emphasizing the need to mitigate settler violence. We also note the vital role that the U.S. Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority (USSC) is playing to manage risk in the area,\u201d the Senators wrote.<\/strong> \u201cHowever, more must be done. We urge your administration to enhance its diplomatic efforts to prevent further violence and respectfully request a briefing from your administration on current policy to address incidents of extremist settler violence and the forcible displacement of Palestinians in the West Bank.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, Sen. Ossoff led 35 U.S. Senators<\/a> in a joint statement urging the swift implementation of sustained access for humanitarian aid, including water and medical supplies, to save civilian lives in Gaza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the attacks, Sen. Ossoff issued a statement strongly condemning Hamas\u2019 indiscriminate and murderous assault on our Israeli allies. Sen. Ossoff also spoke with Israeli Consul General Anat Sultan-Dadon, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, and other Israeli leaders to convey the outrage and grief of Georgians at the mass murder of Israeli civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
