Washington, D.C. <\/strong>\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is leading a bipartisan effort to upgrade barracks on military bases in Georgia and across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a new inquiry<\/a> with the Department of Defense (DoD), Sens. Ossoff, John Cornyn (R-TX), Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ted Cruz (R-TX), and Ted Budd (R-NC) pressed the Department to increase armed service funding requests to upgrade barracks on military bases across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Senators also asked the DoD to commit to greater transparency on steps they are taking to improve decrepit infrastructure, which affects military readiness and quality of life for servicemembers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The letter comes in response to a U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) report<\/a> that found dangerous living conditions including clogged showers, mold growth, and a lack of hot water in barracks, and other physical and mental health risks for servicemembers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThose who have already answered the call to serve deserve a standard of living commensurate with the most modern and capable fighting force in the world,\u201d the Senators wrote.<\/strong> \u201cAnything less represents a failure to uphold the U.S. government\u2019s commitments and endangers military readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues working to boost national security and fight for the health and safety of Georgia\u2019s military families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Sens. Ossoff and Cornyn led a bipartisan push<\/a> to upgrade barracks, daycare centers, and other facilities for military families in Georgia and across the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff has also introduced bipartisan bills to help more military families access affordable housing<\/a> and mental health services<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to that, Sen. Ossoff led an eight month long bipartisan investigation<\/a> into the mistreatment of military families who live in private base housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Sen. Ossoff also helped introduce a bipartisan bill to bring more oversight and transparency<\/a> to the entire military housing process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
