Ossoff, Mike Braun (R-IN) and Thom Tillis (R-NC)\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sens-ossoff-braun-tillis-introduce-bipartisan-amendment-to-expand-veterans-access-to-breast-cancer-screenings\/#:~:text=Ossoff%2C%20Mike%20Braun%20(R%2D,breast%20cancer%20screenings%20for%20veterans.\">introduced<\/a>&nbsp;a bipartisan amendment to the Senate\u2019s<em>&nbsp;Military Construction and Veterans Affairs<\/em>&nbsp;appropriations bill to help expand breast cancer screenings for veterans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bipartisan amendment appropriates funding to the VA\u2019s Office of Women\u2019s Health to expand access to mobile mammography units, improve advanced mammography equipment, and enhance outreach services to better publicize mammography services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yesterday, the\u00a0<em>Military Construction and Veterans Affairs<\/em>\u00a0appropriations bill passed the Senate, which included Sen. Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan amendment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m working to bring Republicans and Democrats together to expand access to breast cancer screenings for female veterans in Georgia and across the country. Early detection of breast cancer is crucial and lifesaving, which is why I\u2019m working to expand mobile mammography services, especially for female veterans in rural areas who may be several hours drive from a VA clinic or hospital,\u201d<strong>&nbsp;Sen. Ossoff said.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur veterans deserve the best care possible and expanding access to breast cancer screenings for veterans can help save lives. I\u2019m glad to join Sen. Ossoff in this bipartisan effort to expand these life-saving services for veterans in Indiana and across the country,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Sen. Braun.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEarly detection of breast cancer through regular screenings plays a critical role in saving lives,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>said Sen.&nbsp;Tillis.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u201cI\u2019m proud to cosponsor this important amendment on behalf of our veterans, including the nearly 800,000 veterans that call North Carolina home.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the latest step in Sen. Ossoff\u2019s push to expand access to health care and life-saving treatments for Georgia veterans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier this year, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-secures-national-security-upgrades-quality-of-life-enhancements-for-georgias-servicemembers-in-bipartisan-senate-defense-bill\/\">helped secure<\/a>&nbsp;a $10M authorization in the bipartisan Senate National Defense Authorization Act to expand mobile mammography services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February 2023, Sens. Ossoff and Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), along with Sens. Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN),&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/23.02.01_VA-Mammography.pdf\">called on the VA<\/a>&nbsp;to expand access to mobile mammography units, improve advanced mammography equipment, and enhance outreach services to better publicize mammography services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the National Library of Medicine, female veterans were nearly three times more likely to develop invasive breast cancer than the rest of the population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year, Sen. Ossoff led the charge on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsav.com\/video\/sen-ossoff-pushes-for-better-military-armor-for-female-servicemembers\/7894778\/\">upgrading female body armor<\/a>&nbsp;to help ensure that women have quality and proper-fitting gear, significantly reducing their risk of harm or injury during training. Sen.
