Ossoff is delivering new funding through the DOJ\u2019s Office of Justice Programs to improve evidence analysis and help clear the Georgia Bureau of Investigations\u2019 backlog of criminal investigations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Georgia Bureau of Investigations will receive $700,000 through the Federal grant program, which will allow them to investigate fentanyl and other opioid-related cases faster and more efficiently by allowing existing forensic scientists to work overtime and send drug cases to a private lab for review.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m delivering these resources to help Georgia law enforcement analyze substances, effectively investigate opioid and fentanyl related crimes, and bring perpetrators to justice,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen Ossoff said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DOJ\u2019s Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant Program, named for Georgia\u2019s former U.S. Senator, is aimed at improving the quality and timeliness of forensic science and medical examiner services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff continues his advocacy to combat the opioid crisis and crack down on drug-trafficking in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In July, Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoff-introduces-legislation-to-crack-down-on-fentanyl-trafficking\/#:~:text=Ossoff%27s%20Fentanyl%20Trafficking%20Prevention%20Act,encryption%20would%20pierce%20users%27%20privacy.\">introduced<\/a>&nbsp;the&nbsp;<em>Fentanyl<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em>Trafficking<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em>Prevention<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em><em>Act<\/em><em>&nbsp;<\/em>to crack down on&nbsp;fentanyl&nbsp;trafficking&nbsp;by holding social media companies accountable for failing to prevent the sale of dangerous drugs on their platforms, including synthetic opioids like&nbsp;fentanyl, which is currently<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3985410-overdose-rate-involving-fentanyl-spikes-cdc\/\">killing record numbers of Americans<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Late last year, Sen. Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/es\/press-releases\/sen-ossoffs-bipartisan-bill-to-prevent-treat-opioid-addiction-signed-into-law\/\"><em>Rural Opioid Abuse Prevention Act<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) was signed into law, helping rural communities experiencing a high level of opioid overdoses respond to the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last fall, Sen.
