Sen. Ossoff continues working to level the playing field for Georgia farmers and help them export more products<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, following <\/em>Sen. Ossoff\u2019s months-long behind-the-scenes push<\/em><\/a>, the Republic of India announced a major 70% cut to tariffs on U.S. pecan exports<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington D.C. \u2014 <\/strong>U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is fighting to help Georgia farmers compete with imports from Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sens. Ossoff and Marco Rubio (R-FL) led a bipartisan, bicameral group of lawmakers urging U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Tai to follow through on a promise by the Biden Administration to help Southeastern seasonal producers affected by unfair trade practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lawmakers asked Ambassador Tai to provide an update on the status of the private sector trade advisory panel for Southeastern producers, which Ambassador Tai announced last year<\/a> to promote the competitiveness of seasonal and perishable produce producers in the southeastern United States but has yet to convene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEstablishing the panel, and implementing its recommendations, will be critical to providing economic relief to fruit and vegetable growers and rural economies throughout the Southeastern United States. With the 2023-2024 growing season fast approaching, the panel must be convened as soon as possible,\u201d Sens. Ossoff and Rubio and the members of Congress wrote.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sens. Ossoff and Rubio were joined by Senator Rick Scott (R-FL) and Representatives Bilirakis (R-FL), Posey (R-FL), Donalds (R-FL), Salazar (R-FL), Rutherford (R-FL), Bishop (D-GA), Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Scott (R-GA), Ferguson (R-GA), Waltz (R-FL), Franklin (R-FL), Gimenez (R-FL), Buchanan (R-FL), Cammack (R-FL), Mast (R-FL), Soto (D-FL), Carter (R-GA), Dunn (R-FL), and Steube (R-FL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues to lead the charge to support Georgia\u2019s farmers and strengthen the state\u2019s agricultural industries. 

Earlier this year, Sen. Ossoff heard directly from farmers and growers in Georgia<\/a> about the needs of their industries and how he can best fight for them in the Senate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In January, following Sen. Ossoff\u2019s months-long behind-the-scenes push<\/a>, the Republic of India announced a major 70% cut to tariffs on U.S. pecan exports, a big win for Georgia farmers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff has also been working to open more international markets for Georgia\u2019s farmers and growers to export more products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He and Senator Reverend Warnock also recently urged<\/a> President Biden and the Department of Agriculture to boost funding to protect Georgia\u2019s poultry industry from avian flu outbreaks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
