Ossoff today introduced the&nbsp;<em>Fentanyl Trafficking Prevention Act&nbsp;<\/em>to crack down on fentanyl trafficking by holding social media companies accountable for failing to prevent the sale of dangerous drugs on their platforms, including synthetic opioids like fentanyl, which is currently&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3985410-overdose-rate-involving-fentanyl-spikes-cdc\/\">killing record numbers of Americans<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<em>Fentanyl Trafficking Prevention Act<\/em>&nbsp;would subject social media companies to a maximum of $10 million in criminal penalties for facilitating the unlawful distribution or dispensing of opioids, synthetic opioids, methamphetamine, or cocaine \u2014 actions that already violate service providers\u2019 terms of service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDeaths and addiction from fentanyl and other opioids are devastating families in Georgia and nationwide. My&nbsp;<em>Fentanyl Trafficking Prevention Act<\/em>&nbsp;will hold social media companies accountable for recklessly facilitating the sale and distribution of these lethal drugs,\u201d<strong>&nbsp;Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just last week, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Administrator&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/homenews\/sunday-talk-shows\/4078340-dea-administrator-says-social-media-companies-not-complying-to-address-fentanyl-crisis\/\">warned on&nbsp;<em>Meet The Press<\/em><\/a>&nbsp;that social media companies weren\u2019t doing enough to address the fentanyl crisis, noting that cartels are using social media platforms\u2019 online marketplaces to sell drugs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen.
