Washington, D.C. \u2014 <\/strong>Bipartisan legislation championed by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff to keep Georgia families safe just passed the U.S. Senate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Sen. Ossoff\u2019s push to bring Republicans and Democrats together, the U.S. Senate today passed the bipartisan the Fire Grants and Safety Act <\/em>to upgrade fire safety and ensure Georgia\u2019s Fire Departments and emergency personnel have the equipment needed to protect families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After hearing from Fire Chiefs across the state about aging equipment and understaffed departments, Sen. Ossoff successfully gathered bipartisan support in the Senate to pass the bipartisan bill, which will help local fire departments upgrade equipment, hire and retain firefighters, and strengthen trainings to better respond to fire emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf your family wakes up at midnight hearing the alarm and smelling smoke, you need to know help is coming, and coming fast,\u201d Sen. Ossoff said<\/strong>. \u201cThat is why I worked to bring Republicans and Democrats together to pass this bipartisan bill that will upgrade fire safety across Georgia. This bill will help firefighters save lives and protect themselves on the job.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bipartisan bill now heads to the U.S. House of Representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, Sen. Ossoff met with Columbus Fire\/EMS Chief Sal Scarpa<\/a> and local firefighters to discuss the importance of passing this bipartisan bill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues to champion efforts to keep families across Georgia safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last month, Sen. Ossoff introduced bipartisan legislation<\/a> to help law enforcement agencies reduce staffing shortages and effectively protect communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
