Ossoff and Marco Rubio (R-FL) led the charge to help servicemembers living in higher-cost areas afford safe and quality housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMilitary families shouldn&#8217;t have to worry about putting a roof over their heads while serving our nation,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.&nbsp;<\/strong>\u201cI brought Democrats and Republicans together to ensure Georgia\u2019s military families have access to affordable and quality housing.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sens. Ossoff and Rubio\u2019s bipartisan&nbsp;<em>Military Housing Affordability Act of 2022<\/em>&nbsp;passed as part of this year\u2019s&nbsp;<em>National Defense Authorization Act<\/em>, which now heads to President Biden to become law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill will grant the Secretary of Defense the authority to adjust the basic allowance for housing (BAH) rates where the cost of adequate housing differs more than 20% from the current BAH rate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DoD just used their authority in September to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.navy.mil\/Press-Office\/News-Stories\/Article\/3176047\/cost-of-living-increases-in-2022-bah-starts-oct-1-for-sailors-in-certain-locati\/\">raise<\/a>&nbsp;the BAH rate for servicemembers at Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay in Southeast Georgia.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Washington, D.C.&nbsp;\u2014 U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff\u2019s bipartisan bill to help military families afford housing passed the U.S. Senate and heads to the President\u2019s desk to become law.
