Georgia is facing a critical shortage of nurses, physicians and emergency medical personnel across the state<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Buddy Carter led charge to secure approval of new program<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

New program will help train & retain more health care workers across the state<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington, D.C. \u2014 <\/strong>Thanks to U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, new resources are coming to Georgia to help train and keep more health care workers in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In August, Sen. Ossoff, Congressman Earl L. \u201cBuddy\u201d Carter (R-GA-01), and 11 bipartisan members of Georgia\u2019s Congressional Delegation launched an inquiry<\/a> with the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to approve a new program to bring more physicians, nurses, and emergency medical personnel to communities across Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, following Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Carter, and the Georgia Delegation\u2019s push, CMS approved the \u201cGA-STRONG\u201d proposal, which will provide new resources to help teaching hospitals across Georgia hire, train, and retain more health care workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The expanded health care workforce will help more Georgians access the vital health care they need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cGeorgia has consistently been in the top ten states for critical staffing shortages,\u201d Sen. Ossoff, Rep. Carter, and the members wrote in August<\/strong>. \u201cThe complex crises of workforce shortage and health inequity are urgent matters that require action.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The letter was co-signed by Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock and Reps. Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (D-GA-02), Drew Ferguson (R-GA-03), Henry C. \u201cHank\u201d Johnson, Jr. (D-GA-04), Nikema Williams (D-GA-05), Lucy McBath (D-GA-06), Carolyn Bourdeaux (D-GA-07), Austin Scott (R-GA-08), Barry Loudermilk (R-GA-11), Rick W. Allen (R-GA-12), and David Scott (D-GA-13).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hospitals and health care professionals across the state applauded the members\u2019 efforts:<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Northeast Georgia Health System enthusiastically supports Georgia\u2019s proposal, and we encourage Administrator Brooks-LaSure to proceed quickly with approval.
