Washington, D.C<\/strong>. \u2014 Today, bipartisan legislation championed by U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff to guarantee health benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic chemicals was signed into law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cToday is big day for veterans in Georgia and across the country,\u201dSen. Ossoff <\/strong>said<\/strong><\/a>.<\/strong> \u201cWhen I entered the Senate, I committed to working across the aisle to pass this legislation, which will strengthen health for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and today the President has signed it into law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff has worked relentlessly to pass the bipartisan PACT Act of 2022<\/em>, which will expand and strengthen VA health care for thousands of veterans who suffer from health conditions related to burn pits and other toxic exposures, many of whom were exposed during their service in Iraq or Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a fiery floor speech earlier this summer, Sen. Ossoff <\/strong>reminded his colleagues<\/a><\/strong>, \u201cWhen we send Americans to war, caring for them when they return is not a favor. It\u2019s not a good deed. It\u2019s not a choice. It\u2019s a sacred obligation of the U.S. government.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMany of the same Senators who voted to send our forces into harm\u2019s way in Iraq and Afghanistan are still serving in this body today,\u201d Sen. Ossoff <\/strong>continued<\/a><\/strong>. <\/strong>\u201cWe have a sacred obligation to pass this legislation to ensure that those who served in those conflicts and anywhere around the world in service to the United States, suffering from the effects of exposure to toxins, gets the care they need through the VA.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this summer, Sen. Ossoff briefed local leaders in Columbus<\/a> and Macon<\/a> on his efforts to pass this important legislation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
