Washington, D.C.<\/strong> \u2014 This week, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff met with Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Herzog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador Herzog took office in November 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During their in-person meeting, Sen. Ossoff welcomed Amb. Herzog, expressed his interest in building a strong working relationship, and affirmed his commitment to helping achieve a future when Israelis and Palestinians alike can flourish in peace and security.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff and Amb. Herzog discussed regional security and political issues, including recent terrorist attacks targeting Israeli civilians and instability in Palestinian territories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff also raised the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh, an American journalist shot to death while reporting in the West Bank last month. Sen. Ossoff requested information regarding Israeli efforts to investigate Ms. Akleh\u2019s death and reiterated his desire that all parties ensure a full, transparent, and unbiased investigation is completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this week, Sens. Ossoff and Romney\u00a0sent a bipartisan letter<\/a>\u00a0to Secretary of State Antony Blinken urging the U.S. ensure a full and transparent investigation is conducted and that justice be served for Ms. Akleh\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues to forge strong working relationships with key leaders in the Middle East.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In April, Sen. Ossoff hosted Nir Barkat, Member of the Israeli Knesset, for an in-person meeting in Washington, and Sen. Ossoff met<\/a> with U.S. Ambassador to Israel Thomas Nides in March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this year, Sen. Ossoff met twice with Israeli Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Idan Roll.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff met<\/a> twice last year with Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid \u2014 once in Israel and once in the United States \u2014 and also met last year<\/a> with Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett, Israeli President Isaac Herzog, and Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last November, Sen. Ossoff hosted Lebanon Armed Forces Commander General Joseph Aoun in Washington for consultations on regional security following their September meeting<\/a> in Beirut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
