Sen. Ossoff raises objection to India\u2019s pecan tariffs that hurt Georgia farmers<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, Georgia pecan farmers expressed to Sen. Ossoff their concerns about India\u2019s tariffs; Sen. Ossoff has taken swift initial action<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Georgia produces about one-third of all American pecans<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Washington, D.C.<\/strong> \u2014 Today, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff met with India\u2019s Ambassador to the United States, Taranjit Singh Sandhu. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meeting via videoconference, Sen. Ossoff and Amb. Sandhu discussed opportunities to strengthen U.S.-India relations and issues of concern to the Indian diaspora in Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Responding to the needs of Georgia farmers, Sen. Ossoff also raised objections to India\u2019s high tariffs on pecans, which are hurting Georgia farmers who export pecans to international markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff and Amb. Sandhu agreed to work together to make improvements to the U.S.-India trade relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier this month, Sen. Ossoff listened to Georgia pecan farmers<\/a> in Tift and Turner counties who expressed concern about India\u2019s high pecan tariffs. Georgia produces about one-third of all American pecans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sen. Ossoff continues his work to support Georgia farmers and growers. Last year, Sen. Ossoff secured a commitment<\/a> from the President and Chair of the U.S. Export-Import Bank to help more Georgia pecan farmers sell their products around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
