Ossoff Statement on Supreme Court Nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 Today, U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff, a member of the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee, released the following statement:<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI take very seriously my Constitutional responsibilities of advice and consent, and there are few nominations more significant than a lifetime appointment to the Supreme Court. Since President Biden nominated Judge Jackson, I have engaged diligently to understand Judge Jackson\u2019s record and qualifications, and her approach to Constitutional law, civil rights and civil liberties, and the Court\u2019s role in our Republic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI reviewed Judge Jackson\u2019s record, met with her directly, and questioned her in public for nearly an hour over several days during her confirmation hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI approached Judge Jackson\u2019s confirmation hearing with an open mind. I questioned Judge Jackson about the separation of powers and limits on government power. I asked questions to determine Judge Jackson\u2019s approach to First Amendment protections of speech, press, assembly, and the free exercise of religion<em>.&nbsp;<\/em>I asked questions to determine how Judge Jackson would approach Fourth Amendment search and seizure cases as emerging technologies present new facts and circumstances. I asked questions to determine how Judge Jackson would approach cases involving the Sixth Amendment right to counsel.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThroughout that process, Judge Jackson demonstrated a strong commitment to the Constitution, civil rights and liberties, equal justice, and the rule of law, as well as a strong understanding of relevant precedent. She described to the Committee a judicial methodology she applies in order to ensure impartiality and to uphold the rule of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cJudge Jackson\u2019s qualifications as a District Judge and an Appellate Judge are impeccable. I questioned a team of investigators who reviewed her record and reputation in detail and who testified under oath that they found no information calling into question Judge Jackson&#8217;s integrity, competence, or commitment to the rule of law.
