I\u2019m glad to see this prompt response to my demand for better service. I will continue to hold the IRS accountable to reduce the backlog and ensure Georgia families receive their refunds and returns swiftly and on-time,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>Sen. Ossoff said.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen. Ossoff&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ossoff.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/IRS-Letter.pdf\">asked<\/a>&nbsp;IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig for a detailed strategy to address the tax return backlog after hearing from Georgians about hurdles they are facing as they wait for their tax returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yesterday, the agency&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/press-releases\/jy0648\">responded to Sen. Ossoff with a plan to improve service<\/a>, which includes hiring 10,000 new employees, surging thousands of current employees to tackle the backlog, increasing assistance for taxpayers to reduce processing delays, and developing and deploying updated technology to more quickly catch return errors and improve tools for taxpayer assistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to&nbsp;<em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/2022\/03\/10\/irs-hire-tax-return-backlog\/?utm_medium=social&amp;utm_campaign=wp_main&amp;utm_source=twitter\">The Washington Post<\/a><\/em>, the IRS currently has a backlog of 24 million returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Georgians needing help with tax returns, the IRS, or other issues with the Federal government should visit Ossoff.senate.gov or call Sen.
