Ossoff, Brown, Warnock Working to Help Low-Income Families Access Health Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Washington, D.C. \u2014<\/strong>&nbsp;U.S. Senators Jon Ossoff (D-GA), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, and Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) are working to help low-income families in Georgia and across the country access health care services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a letter to Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, the Senators urged the Centers for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services (CMS) to expand transportation options to help qualifying low-income Americans get to doctors\u2019 appointments and other non-emergency medical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.macpac.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/June-2021-Report-to-Congress-on-Medicaid-and-CHIP.pdf\">recent report<\/a> shows how Medicaid recipients across the country struggle to access transportation, limiting their access to vital health care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOn behalf of individuals in our states with disabilities, seniors, dialysis patients, and others who require regular transportation to health care services, we write to urge that access to low-cost, non-emergency medical transportation is strengthened nationwide,\u201d<strong>the Senators wrote.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last month, CMS began to expand the&nbsp;Repetitive Scheduled Non-Emergent Ambulance Transport (RSNAT) program, which helps low-income people get to and from medical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith CMS planning to expand the model to&nbsp;Georgia as soon as February 1,&nbsp;2022, there needs to be a plan in place to assist these individuals with accessing lifesaving treatments, like dialysis and wound care services,\u201d&nbsp;<strong>the group continued.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Georgia Congressman Sanford Bishop (GA-02)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/bishop.house.gov\/media-center\/press-releases\/representatives-bishop-and-c-rdenas-call-on-hhs-secretary-to-preserve\">led a similar effort<\/a>&nbsp;in the House of Representatives last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sen.
